Abbey Advent: Faithfulness Week 2 Day 4

Day 4: Faithfulness - Anna and Simeon

Text: Luke 2:25-38

Have you waited for something, hopeful and excited? How long did you wait? Remember how it felt -- the longing, the expectation, the anticipation. This was the world of Anna and Simeon.

Both were old, and both had waited untold years for the Messiah. Faithfully, they waited at the temple, praying that He would come, praying for God’s mercy on His people to show up and walk in as a person.

Then there He was: a Baby! Protectively swaddled, His father’s arms a harbor, His mother’s eyes, a home. The Holy Spirit pointed them to Jesus and they were firecrackers of joy, bursting with the announcement that the Messiah had come.

Faithfulness is waiting … waiting even decades! … then tumbling over with joy when everything comes together. Will you wait, even though others may think you’re crazy?

Reflection

Morning Pause: What are you longing for? What are you waiting for?

Afternoon Pause:

Do you fear that time spent waiting on God to move will diminish your faithfulness to Him? Are you afraid you will fail Him as you wait? Take time to commit to God and yourself that He is God, He is your God and you will stay on a faithful trajectory toward him for your lifetime.

Evening Pause:  When in your day did you have to wait for something or someone? Consider Anna and Simeon waiting for decades to see Jesus, the hope of the world, the light of their lives. Be happy, knowing you can see Him too, as you read this narrative.
